We have the exact same situation. We tackled it in several different ways as we gained some experience with OS X: 1) Use Project Builder, then copy and paste the compile and link commands it uses from its log. 2) Recognize that PB uses Jam, and create your own calls to Jam, which in turn calls the compile and link commands. We left the organization of resources, such as .pbx and .plist files, alone so that we may continue to use PB if desired. We also added some niceties into our makefiles to edit the .plist files at compile time to keep the KEXT's version numbers up-to-date. Hope this helps. You shouldn't have to much problems with the conversion. The difficulty is getting the build flags right. I suggest you setup a baby kext project and copy the build flags from the 'pbxbuild' output. Remember the layout of the kext is important too. Clearly there is an emphasis to use Project Builder for all Mac OS X software, including kernel extensions, and we have nothing against the tool, however the rationale for using make still holds for this port. Does anyone have experience with building a kernel extension using Make? VFS unloading issue

Hello, I have been playing around with a couple of file-system kexts to understanding the workings of MacOSX VFS. I found that I could *kextunload* a mounted filesystem. Extra research indicated that, even though vfs_refcount is maintained correctly by the vfs infrastructure, the vfsconf_del doesn't actually check the value before deleting the vfsconf! I also noticed that, unless I maintained my own pointer, there was no interface to retrieve the vfsconf. To get a meaningful answer you really need to give more details about your requirements. How much information do you need to pass between your client and server? The total size of data passed between the two and the expected number of requests per second is both important. Simplest IPC

Could some body explain, how two independent applications on the sam host can establish connectin for IPC. At first, I try to use msgget, msgsend, msgrcv... But under OS X it returns "not emplemented" error. I look at Darwin sources. There are two version of this functions. One of this versions looks like that it is functioning properly. Maybe I neet link some library with right version of this functions? At second, I read kernel_principles and kernel_interfaces pdfs. "disk1s9: 0x3 (UNDEFINED)" message?

Apr 24 11:25:26 jsg3-10 mach_kernel: disk1s9: 0x3 (UNDEFINED). Apr 24 11:34:00 jsg3-10 mach_kernel: disk1s9: 0x3 (UNDEFINED). What does this message mean? Which kext is printing this message? The last reboot was on: Apr 18 14:44:58 jsg3-10 reboot: rebooted by sbytnar I leave the machine going 24x7. disk1s9 is a journaled HFS+ file system on a 120GB master IDE drive, on bus ide@20001. Each time this message appeared, a long delay of around 2 minutes was observed. After 10 minutes and 4 printouts of the message, the machine stopped being usable (all disk activity halted) and had to be power cycled. I left it powered off for a few hours and booted into 9.2.2. No SMART errors were reported. Booted back into 10.2.5, and it has been fine since. AppleShare/IP and Timbuktu issues with my VPN NKE

Could anyone out there give me some quick reference URL's about the way AppleShare/IP and Timbuktu may include IP addresses in the IP data (or TCP data) portion of their communications? I have received a report that my VPN NKE is not properly handling such traffic.
