There's a NOTE_TRACK event which can be monitored via kqueue mechanism, which follows a process across fork() calls and allows me to receive PIDs of both parent and child processes, which is just what I need. However, monitoring the NOTE_TRACK event causes kernel panic as soon as the parent process fork()s any children. This bug with a simple test case has been posted to this list [1] in 2005, and based on the list archives it has been also reported via bugreporter. Does anyone have any updates on this issue? The bug is still present in Mac OS X 10.4.7, Darwin 8.7.1. Any ideas about alternative ways to accomplish the same goal would be also appreciated (polling the whole process list isn't an option). I'm writing a network-based VFS (e.g webdavfs). When my file system is mounted, I would like to have it automatically show up in the Finder. Currently it only appears once I navigate to the parent directory of the mount point. And then it doesn't go away when I unmount. I've seen some indication that I need a bundle in /System/Library/Filesystems to make this happen - but I can't find anything describing what that bundle should contain, and all of the pre-existing ones seem different from eachother. I copied one of those bundles and modified the contents so that some things now appear that didn't before. For example, the "Format" field in the Info dialog contains what I told it in the bundle Info.plist file, rather than "unknown". Does anybody know what's required to make this work correctly (and any other cool tricks - can I specify an icon for the Sidebar, etc.)? The "stop" function of my kext is never called automatically if ones tries to shutdown or restart the computer. In "normal" use, it's not a big deal, as my application unloads the kext when exiting. But if the app crashes or is "killed -9", the kext is not unloaded and the user gets a nice kernel panic when shuting down his computer. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing here ? The KP could probably be prevented by, for instance, sending the PID of the process to the kext and checking in the kext for this PID before doing something "dangerous". It is especially frustrating when you're working with interface filters. On the outbound path, you get the entire packet in the mbuf chain. On the inbound path, the ethernet header is separate, in the packet header's header field. As I believe has been pointed out to you previously, if you want to talk to this device you are going to have to write a stub driver that matches it, and export your own interface. I have gone through sample codes available on apple site. But this code is not working for the "Peripheral Device Type" = 0x00 which is a Direct Access Block device. This code is working fine with "Peripheral Device Type "= 0x03. When I specify Peripheral Device Type = 0x00, the code is able to recognize the devices but not able to find the appropriate device interface to open the connection with the device for sending the commands. Code is failing in function IOCreatePlugInInterfaceForService (service, kIOSCSITaskDeviceUserClientID, kIOCFPlugInInterfaceID, &score); This function gives me following error: IOCreatePlugInInterfaceForService returned -536870201. When I run this sample code with changes it is showing me the following output: taskStatus = 0, transferCountHi = 0x00000000, transferCountLo = 0x00000024 *********** INQUIRY DATA *********** Peripheral Device Type = 3 Removable Media Bit = 0 Vendor Identification = CNSi Product Identification = R2500:A Product Revision Level = D114 taskStatus = 0 Good Status Please suggest how I should specify the correct device interface; so that I will be able to perform "Inquiry" command onto the underneath SCSI block devices using the device interface mechanism in user space application.
