I got a kernel, and now?

Folks, I finally ended up building the 1504.15.3 kernel on PPC. Now, if I naively move the kernel binary to /mach_kernel and reboot, I get a panic because the kernel can’t find any matching extension. What I am supposed to do? Do you really mean Lion, or S.L.? xnu-1504.15.3 seems to be the last to refer to PPC in Config and other files. Thanks! Lion is the last version to support ppc, which you have already identified. Latest version available of xnu/ppc?

Hi folks, sorry if this question seems naive or preposterous. I need a feature added in MacOS 10.6 (i.e. the ability to add a default gateway per interface) on PPC MacPro (therefore commercially stuck to 10.5.8). I was thinking about compiling a xnu kernel > 1228.15.4, but I have no clue if it is possible, and, if yes, what is the latest xnu kernel compilable for ppc. If this is not feasible, then I have two solutions: - compile a 1228.15.4 kernel with debug symbols and see why ipfw does not work properly; - switch to Free- or NetBSD/ppc. I've noticed that corrupted disk images downloaded from the web normally fail a checksum test on trying to attach them, but if the same disk image is accessed via a network share, the checksum test is skipped. This makes sense as transferring the whole image over the network for checksum generation can take a while. In any case, problems are then of course detected when actually trying to read affected files from the mounted volume. I haven't checked to see if I/O errors are reported for the block device in this case, but it seems plausible. Another candidate might be sparse bundles. These consist of multiple files, which are much more likely to be in different stages of being committed to disk if the write is somehow interrupted. I could easily imagine blocks going missing if that happens. Based on mount.h we can see what the events are: #define VQ_VERYLOWDISK 0x0200 /* file system has *very* little disk space left */ #define VQ_LOWDISK 0x0004 /* we're low on space */ Which kind of makes sense, the disk image may not have very much free space, and this is probably generated on mount. The errors however, I can't help with.
