Swap partitions

Hello, I am new to the Darwin / MacOS world and I am looking for some guidance. For starters I have heard any number of pros and cons about the swap file system used in Darwin. I understand the basics of the Dynamic Pager system ,but I am wondering why there appears to be a lack if support to dedicated swap partitions. Is this a limitation of XNU? or is this to make Apple's end users happy I.E. when they buy a 150G disk they don't see 149G available. ;) .
