Turning the cooling fan on manually

Hi! Does anyone know how to turn the cooling fan of a PowerBook G4 on manually? I read a lot of kernel code, but I couldn't find the place where thermal managment is done. I would like to write a small tool, which enables the user to turn on the fan.
