When you get a Kernel Panic, the system is essentially dead -- and so is the gdb you are using for live Kernel debugging. The engineers at Apple can do a lot, but magic is probably not one of their skills. You are debugging the live, running kernel, not some virtual machine. To use a movie quote "And when the machine breaks down, we break down" To capture a Kernel Panic, you can either use the logs, or setup remote core dumps. ADC Documentation has all the info.
