I would like to know if it is possible to check if a file exists from a kernel extension. The reason I am interested in doing this is because I am creating a device in the /dev directory. Under Tiger this works fine, but in Leopard my device name is truncated at the / using the devfs_make_node function. Firstly, you shouldn't be trying to make directories in devfs. As recently discussed here, it doesn't work too well. Secondly, you should be deciding beforehand whether you are running on a kernel that will give you problems by looking at the various versioning information available to you, and doing the right thing up front.
