While, searching for this particular problem, I found out that this is supported on Tiger and not on Panther. But I have no clue about Darwin's support. Can you let me know if this is supported on Darwin? Tiger corresponds to Darwin 8.x. Panther is based on Darwin 7.x. Since you said you are using 7.9.0, that means you won't have it.
