You really don't want to do this, but if you are insistent on not doing things the right way, there's documentation on Mach semaphore primitives at: Don't blame us when your product causes someone's machine to appear to lock up (there are only 7 places Mach semaphores that are used internally in the kernel, and one of those is in IOCommandQueue).
