Now I can't get it to happen at all (after trying sans windowing system and going back to Aqua) and I forgot the exact mach port abort message that got spit out at me. resolv.c is not mine. At least the symbolics file with gdb thinks it knows the line #. If you've got access to this file for Darwin I'd be interested to know what is going on. May be a bug. Weird.
