I am interested in writing software for OS X that will filter/translate certain keystroke combinations. This is to support a keyboard wedge barcode scanner (the old CueCat, if anyone remembers it). This device sends "encrypted" barcode information which I would like to capture, translate and insert back into the keyboard buffer properly formatted. I'd like for this code to be as high level as possible, but all indications I have seen so far make me think I'm going to need to write a kext. So, could anyone give me some pointers as to where to start with this? I'm just looking for the name of the right API, or the layer of the OS I should be looking at but I'd appreciate any information anyone can provide. This email sent to site_archiver@lists.apple.com
