RE: Running Acronis on MacBook Pro w/Windows
site_archiver@lists.apple.com Delivered-To: darwin-kernel@lists.apple.com Thread-index: AcitWlx2j4on/Hd/Sw+CiW7H6uSOcgAHw6Gw This is not a Windows or Acronis question. Andreas Fink [afink@list.fink.org] gave me a possible solution which I will try as soon as I can. You would be best off raising the issue with Acronis, or any of their competitors. = Mike On May 3, 2008, at 12:05 PM, Eddy Quicksall wrote:
Duane, Intel Macs do not use the legacy Master Boot Record, they use the GUID Parition Table scheme. EFI uses GPT where BIOS uses a Master Boot Record (MBR).
Acronis's problem is that it does not support the GUID partition format.
What I'm wanting to know is if there is a way to over come the Acronis shortcomings.

The Acronis backup program will not run on a MacBook Pro which is running Windows. I believe the problem is due to the fact that Bootcamp does not use the legacy Master Boot Record.
That would be an incorrect supposition. Boot Camp works specifically because the MBR is used to boot into Windows.
