Under the heading "Using Interface Builder" item 2a says "In the MainMenu.nib window, click Classes".

My problem is that the MinMenu.nib does not have anything called "Classes". What it has is "Files Owner", "First Responder", "Application", "MainMenu" and "Window".

Does anyone know how to proceed with this bit of "help"?

Likely better to ask Xcode related questions on the Xcode users list and not this list. Anyway it sounds like you are looking at the documentation for Interface Builder v2.0 but are using Interface Builder v3.0.
