The open/close dialog suggests that you may have one or more disks in your system spinning down.

I get this all the time (I have 3 internal disks and 2 external disks), fortunately I can hear the disk spinning up so I know what is happening. I just wish there was a visual indicator to the user as to what is going on, because otherwise the program just looks like it is hung. When I do demos for people or screencasts, I turn off "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" in the Energy Saver panel.
