10.3 drivers retro-install into 10.2.8?
I can't yet roll out 10.3, so have to port 10.2.8 onto current hardware. I have a 10.2.8-based image developed on the 1GHz and earlier iMac and have to port that onto the current 1.25 GHz iMac. Problem is that the 10.2.8 image has video drivers (kexts) for Nvidia GeForce4MX, while the 1.25GHz has Nvidia GeForce FX5200 video kexts. With this environment, the 1.25GHz machine only goes to 1152x720, instead of the full 1440x900 of 10.3.2 native resolution. I've tried installing the Nvidia kexts from 10.3.2 into the 10.2.8 imaged iMac (booted in FWTDM, GUI drag-and-drop, no rebinding), but that just seemed like the wrong way to do this and in fact may have made the problem worse. The machine can boot into single user but not safe mode, and in verbose mode it hangs on (or about): Starting Internet Services <date> <time> <hostname> xinetd[343]: 343 {init_services} no services exiting... Starting network file system Starting printing services Starting timed execution services /etc/rc: line 247 116 hangup SystemStarter -g ${VerboseMode} ${SafeBoot} Have looked through Nvidia's site for driver (kext) installers for the FX5200 for Macintosh, but can't much for the platform. Email to Nvidia hasn't got a reply. Google hasn't produced anything useful either. Two replies on the Mac Managers list - one said "easy, drag and drop", the other said "it'll never work, don't try". Is this too ridiculous a quest, or does it seem to be doable?
