packagemaker cmd can not build pmproj with a relative root path

I would like to use the new feature in the latest packagemaker version to build packages out of pmproj files. But this fails with the message : No root specified for archive. This is because the pmproj has a relative path to its root. Even if I add -f path_to_root to the commandline it fails. Is this known and is there a workaround ? If you set it on Mac OS X 10.2 or later, when you mount the disk image in 10.1, the background image is not displayed. o If you change the title of the disk image at one point, depending on the OS release, you may lose the background image. o If you need to support Mac OS X 10.1, you will have to bear the fact that the spacing (and sometimes icons size) is/are neither going to be the same for that OS compared to more recent releases. o You have to add extra space at the bottom of the window if you're setting the disk image on Mac OS X 10.2. The person who implemented this package did basically the following assuming folder "PackageDir" for the folder to build the disk image from: Any advice, better methods, etc. would be appreciated. I need it to all run from the command line for automation, but beyond that anything that will make it work I would be happy to hear about. Regards, Brian Ray http://brianray.chipy.org Another interesting thing to note is that because the background images can be anything readable in Core Image by Quartz (please correct me if this is wrong), they can be in one of several formats: .jpg, .tif, .tiff, .gif, .pict, .eps, and .pdf I think what this means is that you can use vector graphics. Vector graphics are better because they are resolution independent. And in the case you wish to resize, this will be important in how they are rendered to the user. I plan on using .eps and .pdf files for my future installer projects. This is an advantage if you have had the misfortune of working with Install Shield or VISE. Also effecting how the background displays, although this may have already been mentioned, is that the text will be placed on top of the background image during the entire install process. So, the contrast needs to result high enough so people with disabilities can still read and see what is going on. I recommend fading back any images which will fall anywhere but the lower left to about 20%. The result is that any artwork here should appear as a watermark. The main box adds some more fade, but not enough if say you were to use a solid dark color background. Lastly, I would not get overly obsessed with this but I do recommend taking a look ath the Macintosh Human Interface Guidelines (HI Guide): <http://tinyurl.com/ngthb> There is some good advice here for just about anybody who develops view portions of products. _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list. PackageMaker (null) error

site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com Delivered-To: installer-dev(a)lists.apple.com Hello, I have been searching for a fix to the Packagemaker bug where you get an error message saying "You cannot install this software on this disk. (null)" This seems to happen on 10.2.x machines when you create an installer with the Root Volume Only flag set. I know the user can click the Go Back button and then click Continue to get around the issue but I would rather the user not have to do this. One person in this forum mentioned deleting the receipt prior to installing but this did not solve the problem. Another suggestion was to try and add a VolumeCheck that only accepts "/". So far I have been unable to make that solution work either. If anyone has a sample script they used, that might be helpful to me If there is a fix out there that has worked, I would appreciate hearing about it. I'll have them start with the suggested size, test the "growability", and recommend a small graphic in the lower left side. How does that sound? I don't remember having seen an installer with a small graphic on the lower left side that looked as good as the ones with a big transparent (and cut on the left) image. If you're not a "too small company", maybe you can afford to ask for a bigger version of the image you're planning to put in the lower left corner and put it where the X or Application image are set.
