Using su with the -c flag for the /usr/bin/mdimport command could work. You'd have to programmatically determine what user you really are, so you could feed that to su. I seem to remember perl still knowing who you really were, even with elevated privs. There may be other ways to determine it as well. Now I have ONE of 10 installers that insists upon doing a 'divert' during the installation. pkgExtractor[9653]: Diverting "myGreatApp" to "some very old version of myGreateApp that has NEVER been installed on Leopard, but certainly exists" It is POSSIBLE that I might have built and installed the offending project targeting 10.5. Our Installer includes a postflight script. The Installation runs authenticated. The postflight script is written in perl. During the postflight script we want to execute a tool that is part of the installation package. Naturally the tool needs to run as root for it to do it's work. On Tiger, this work beautifully. On Leopard, the tool is not even loaded or run. We added a sleep() to the beginning of the tool. It's never executed. If I move the tool to a standard location (ie /usr/bin) and specify that in the perl script, the tool runs fine. If I run the tool directly from the shell using sudo it runs fine. However, running the script from the shell using sudo also does _not_ work. What new security feature have we run into? How to do we handle this situation? This worked great in Tiger, but in Leopard (10.5.1) I have problems, in my Info.plist for the plugin, if I set the NSPrincipalClass key to be InstallerSectionSection, then the plugin never loads (I've confirmed this in the debugger). If I change the NSPrincipalClass to be "InstallerSection", the plugin loads, but my InstallerSectionSection class is never instantiated (or at least shouldLoad is never called).
