I have a need if the user does not have the right setup or there hardware that we are installing for is not connected I need to force quit the Installer. You can read about it by googling or looking on http:/ developer.apple.com When you install an app, the app contains info in its Info.plist about files that it can open, and Installer.app and Launch Services automatically do the work needed to set up the normal "my app opens foo" type associations. If you want to change an existing association, for instance, to get your app to launch and open Excel spreadsheets when users double-click files ending with .xls, you would have to write a bunch of custom code, and users should either be asked or at least clearly informed of what's going to happen, lest they become angry at you. _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list. This would be interesting for me too. But I guess this is the wrong mailing list to ask, since the question is mainly (only) related to laws and regulations in the different countries, not (at all) related to development. And even if someone would reply 'its totally legal', would you based on that advise distribute SetFile? And risk getting sued, or even fined? Not to discredit anyone on this mailing list, but legal advice is (like coding advice, too) something you need experts for :-) Have you read XCode EULA? Does it say something about distribution? I've run into this very thing recently where I have to place a symlink and in the root of the drive but hide it from the finder. I am trying to install GhostScript into a folder that has a space in the name but it won't work. It will build fine but the install script chokes. So, I have the symlink point to the folder with the space in the name in order to get it to install. In describing my scenario, I just had an idea that is OT but I wonder if anyone would know without testing. .. Since gs builds with a path specified with a space in it, what if I create the symlink to the path and use DESTDIR to the folder? ./configure --prefix="/Applications/Lasso\ Professional\ 8/ExecuChoice_Tags/Tools" make ln -s /Applications/Lasso\ Professional\ 8/ExecuChoice_Tags/Tools ec_tools make install DESTDIR=/ec_tools Any ideas? However, it seems awkward to write, distribute and maintain an extra cmdline-tool, only to set the icon-attribute once after installation. (Especially given that (a) the attribute would be most conveniently set by PackageMaker, and (b) is not needed to be manually set, if I uncheck a PackageMaker flag). There should be a cmdline tool (or other cmdline way) in a base OS X installation that lets users change attributes, isn't there? That would be very awkward. Finally through experimenting I found accidentially a portable(?) cmdline-solution, and its as simple as it is obvious! 'touch'ing the folder from the postinstall script is sufficient to make finder reload the icon/attributes. I’m assuming that this information is stored in a plist somewhere, but I haven’t located it as yet! Does anybody know where or how I can programmatically detect the locale / language?
