It looks like the correct behavior considering a plugin should be sandboxed by Installer.app. Note that I am doing something slightly different (back => revert to the pane the user just came from), i.e. and my plugin provides pane B. When the user clicks back from C, I want it to go to C, because B actually comes right after the installation, for which there is no prior pane(I believe the Installer disables the back button on the pane immediately after the installation progress bar pane). So in my delegate method for B, if the direction is Backward, I call -[self gotoNextPane]. Anyway, it's probably worth trying what it gives in both cases ( C -> B -> C or C -> B -> A) with - (void) didEnterPane: (InstallerSectionDirection) inDirection; as I tend to believe this ensures that some additional states are set in Installer.app. This email sent to site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com

I've since come to the answer, and I leave it as a conceptual-block buster for readers of the archive. This happened when the receipt file (/Library/Receipts/<package name>.pkg) from a previous installation was still present. My /tmp subdirectory was in both bills of materials, and Installer.app judged it was not necessary to deliver a new copy, even though the old one was not in fact present. Creating a new package "solved" the problem -- once -- because the package had a new name. Once it had run, a receipt was created, and the new package had the problem as well. The solution, in my case where I never really did updates, and could afford complete reinstallations in every case, is to delete the receipt file at the beginning of the postflight script. If an old receipt had been present, items would still be skipped, but the cleanup will ensure that nothing will be skipped at the next run of the package. This list had addressed more or less the same problem earlier, as I found out once I understood the terms to search for. I suppose my requests for help were too obvious to respond to. Since the packagemaker that ships with 3.1 is still broken (as in forgetting install destination paths) - I'm using packagemaker 3.01 (whatever ships with Xcode 3.0 GM). I'm using the terminal to build packages, but the GUI seems to work fine as well. I declare everything in the pmdoc so I don't have to have massive scripts. When I call a script for postinstall, it doesn't run. Permissions are fine...this happens in some projects but not others...using the same script.
