When I run the script below, I do get a package where I would like it to be, but it does not contain everything that I think should be in it. On my root there is /pkg_base_engine which contains about 35 files within it. One of these items is a directory. When I run my script, I get a package that contains only one file (when it is installed) which is within the directory within the /pkg_base_engine directory. The receipt based version check of pkgs does not happen when the pkgs are installed from a metapackage. It just installs all the pkgs that are listed in default install unless blocked by the pkg's check tools. The man page for 'installer' tool states, "The installer command is used to install Mac OS X installer packages to a specified domain or volume. The installer command installs a single package per invocation, which is specified with the -package parameter ( -pkg is accepted as a synonym). It may be either a single package or a metapackage. In the case of the metapackage, the packages which are part of the default install will be installed unless disqualified by a package's check tool(s)." One way to solve this issue is to use InstallationCheck scripts to control the installation. The pkg file that is installed is the "MacOSXUpd10.5.5Patch.pkg" and not the MacOSXUpd10.5.5pkg. I have no idea under which circumstances "softwareupdate -d MacOSXUpd10.5.5-10.5.5" downloads this file "MacOSXUpd10.5.5Patch.pkg" and not the "MacOSXUpd10.5.5pkg" file. If you google for "MacOSXUpd10.5.5Patch" you will find a few others having similar problems. our daemon executes software update packages by using installer command line tool. With the new Mac OS X 10.5.5 Update (MacOSXUpd10.5.5-10.5.5) we are seeing that on some machine the installation fails with the following error: We have a machine at the customer site where this is fully reproduce. The machine is an Intel machine running Mac OS 10.5.4 Build 9E17. What can cause this error and what I can do to troubleshoot this. Probably it is because I successfully install the interested file previously. I suggested it because I've noticed that whenever I have that option selected, the installer will find the application in my build folder and overwrite it (which is exactly where Packagemaker fetches the app to place in the installer package from) rather than install the application in the standard folder that I have specified (/ Applications).
