Then, for each one, it just figures out their home directory, constructs a .plist file based on that path, then uses `defaults` to write the setting you want into each of those, whether or not it previously existed. Then it reads back the value to make sure the change worked as expected. If you already have a canned, working, portable .plist file, then you could replace the `defaults` commands with the right `cp $source $plist` line to put your version in place. Let's say that I just wanted to make sure that all users had the same read me file on their desktop. Isn't there some kind of way I can use some sort of all users wildcard? Maybe that syntax would work using the copy function in ARD? From what I've seen on the archives, it seems like I need to make an empty package with the same name as the installer operation, place the script file inside of that package, and then add that package into the distribution package. I've done this procedure for both operations but I've been unable to get either script to execute. Help/Thoughts? The format is the default pkg format that Iceberg outputs. IIRC, there is an undocumented trick to do this prior to flat package. This would require to look in the list archives. I searched in the list archive and I found what I was looking for but it's not a solution to prevent a file from being overwritten but to prevent it from being deleted by a new version of the package that would not include this file (with the help of the Hints.plist file). So the approach I went to, which appears to work, is to just use /usr/sbin/installer to install the subpackages that get downloaded into the same directory as the dist file. Why, well if you choose download from Softwareupdate it downloads the updates to /Library/Updates and the packages are spread out but the .dist file has the whole thing. Now if you double click the .dist file it opens in "installer" and installs just fine, but the install fails if you try to use installer from the command line. Anyway, considering it's only one file, whatever the format is, a possible solution is to go with a distribution script or a metapackage. You create a specific package for this file.
