site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com Delivered-To: installer-dev(a)lists.apple.com We have a bunch of artwork that we want to secure with a serial number (and I've explained that the contents of an installer can be easily decompressed), but of course there doesn't seem to be a good place just to install a bunch of files. The team that is running the project wants me to put it on the user desktop, but also wants it to be a user customizable path, and we have to support 10.4. No, there's no way to have the installer target directly to the currently running user's desktop. The installer's copying mechanism cannot "glob ~", and preflight and postflight cannot influence the copying mechanism. I believe that preflight and postflight scripts can find the currently logged in user's home directory by "globbing ~" and the installer sets/maintains the environment variable $USER (which is user name, and you could theoretically call dscl to find out home directories). So you might think, "Oh, I can install into a temporary location, then move stuff to the desktop later," but this does not handle the case where you want the user to be able to select a different custom location. One of our enterprise clients require it immediately. Please suggest as soon as possible. Just user need to double click the package, it should install in the background silently and after installation it should show application is installed. I'm able to open the package from my installer CD in PackageMaker, make the changes, and build a new package successfully. You lost me here. However, when I try to actually run the new package, I first notice that all of Microsoft's custom artwork is missing from the installer itself, and then once I get to the "Select Destination" stage, all disk volumes are unavailable, with the message simply stating "You cannot install Microsoft Office 20087 for Mac on this volume. Installation cannot proceed, as not all requirements were met". Test machine is a quad-core Mac Pro, 8gb RAM, with 500+ gb free disk space... certainly meets the hardware requirements for Office. Anyone know why making one simple change is causing this to break? I don't have Composer or anything else at my disposal, so my choices are either modify the default package, or move on to building the package by hand. :( ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ W.
