*sigh* of course the solution presents itself 5 minutes after you find THE list where to ask for help: I read somewhere on the list that spaces should not be used in packages used for a productbuild. Hello all, New on this list. Hello! We are building packages on 10.7 which should at least be install-able on 10.5(.8). We create audio software and audio people are a very conservative crowd when it comes to upgrading - if it's not broken don't fix it is almost their life's manta! So, we're using pkgbuild and productbuild to create the packages, but (--this is our first analysis but might not be the root cause--) none of the installers are asking for admin passwords. I'm sorry for the late answer but I'm still fighting with a cold. Stephane tried to help and it seemed that I was able to solve the problem but this was a false positive. The root cause of the problem is the owner of the application. This was not changed to root. And so the application didn't have access to it's own plist file. Have just been trying again. Now I got a new behavior. The permissions of the app and it's plist are okay. But the main app contains a helper app. This this plist is now NOK. The finder shows system: read & write everyone: no access This is a 384 while it should be 420. A bit later... I've now got a workable solution: chown the helper app to root , chown the main app to root. Then both apps seem to get the correct permissions when I create the installer. [Bug] Download progress over 100%

Just in case you use a remote package (http://) in a distribution and during the installation, you observe that the percentage of the download goes over 100%, it's apparently a bug in Mac OS X (Installer.app or Install.framework or another related components). Updating the kext cache

By accident, I noticed that if you install a new kernel extension on 10.8 using an installer package, Installer will update the kext cache for you even if you don't touch /System/Library/Extensions. Is this behavior intended to be relied upon? Upon investigating, I noticed that the timestamp of /System/Library/Extensions did in fact get updated, which may or may not have caused the system to update the kext cache. This might be a coincidence involving the timestamp of /System/Library/Extensions inadvertently getting modified by something else in my installer script, in which case the answer to the question is definitely 'no'.
