For about ten years we've been using VISE to make our installers. For they most part they have worked fine so we weren't motivated to check out the alternatives. Recently we've had more users complain that the installers won't run for them, the installer app crashes or has other odd behavior preventing a successful install. Mindvision has been unable to shine any light on why these users are having trouble, so we're looking at moving off VISE.
That brings me here, to lurk and learn and eventually ask questions.
So far my learning has suggested that Iceberg is the way to go over PackageMaker so I'm reading Iceberg's user guide and trying to understand how it works. One of our engineers is working on converting the "External Code" we used to run in VISE and VISE X to a command-line app that can be called from Installer via scripts.

We used InstallerVISE when it was bundled with FileScripter Pro...which was bundled with NetOctopus (along with Timbuktu, etc.). Ahhh...the old days of NetOctopus...which became LANrev...which became Absolute Manage... :) Can't push InstallerVISE installers. Iceberg, Composer, InstallEASE...there are several good packaging tools that all output properly formatted PKG/MPKG installers. But...Packagemaker is still the supported tool. So while I hardly ever use it (Iceberg is my fav, followed the Composer "easy button"), I still launch it to be familiar with it's functions, and I still study the man pages. The GUI is only marginally useful if you don't know what's happening underneath. Understanding the PKG/MPKG format is the key to using any of the tools...
