So there is, in fact, some continuity here even though it may not be directly in front of the user's face. If the user cannot see the continuity, there remains the causal disconnect of the reaction of the computer appearing as an autonomous action on the part of the computer, and it'll appear that there /is/ no continuity. The thing about continuity is that it's perceptual: either you can see it or it doesn't exist to you for all intents and purposes. There's not much that connects "I clicked to download something 20 minutes ago" with "hey this thing wants to install something on my computer". This email sent to site_archiver@lists.apple.com
