I don't want to require the user to get java updates through the software updater. Also, my clients may not have their macs hooked up to the internet. I'd like to be able to package the VM and any prerequisites it may need on a disk or dmg. Has anyone had any luck with this? I'm on tiger 10.4. I know that if you start from scratch with a new fresh 10.4 install, the first prerequisite is java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 release 2 update. Then it looks like the next prerequisite is an OSX Combined update, which requires a restart (ugh). Then, finally after downloading these two components (and rebooting) I am able to download the J2SE 5.0 Release 4 update. I do have a DMG of J2SE 5.0 Release 2 (I believe it's Release 2), but it's not release 4. It has the frustrating prerequisite of the 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 updates and it doesn't set java 1.5 to be the system default, Thus I really want the latest 1.5 JVM. Has anyone had any luck with installing individual software update components?
