Personally, I usually try to follow Apple's pattern for pernissions/ownership. So, for any new installation packages, I use root:wheel for items inside /Applications. The issue with drag&  drop dmg and zip files are that the owner and group are not correct in the end. The trend seems to be for applications to be root:wheel in /Applications.

This is true for MAS installed apps (for several reasons), but not for non-MAS distributed apps, as far as I can see.
