Never said that or wanted to imply that. They haven't. They just removed the Upgrade label which is not such a bad move:
- There were localizations issues in the past (button not wide enough)
Um, they couldn't make it wider ?
- It was sometimes not obvious which label should be used.
True
I've been using the Apple package solution for 6 years and I don't think that the first word that would come to my mind is flawed. It used to be less flexible than it is today but things are improving.
.. and none of the improvements are backported into the older OS's which make them useless. Really, we're still stuck with at least 10.3 features.
Maybe it does not include all the features that you can find in Installer VISE X or InstallShield or the ones you could put into a custom made one. But I know one thing for sure, when I'm installing a package with Installer.app, I don't feel the urge to shoot myself contrary to my experience so far with multiple installers on Windows or Linux.
When did you last use installers on Windows? These days, the end user experience is pretty much the same as Apple's Installer.app, but underneath it is flexible enough to do what it needed. Admittedly things like InstallShield and MSI are over complicated, but there are exceptions to this - take a look at NSIS for example. If only someone would port NSIS to the Mac :)
The final end user experience with Installer.app is quite good. And I think that at the end of the days, that's what matters the most.
It's simple - that's all you can really say about it. -- Best regards, Peter mailto:darkmatter@blueyonder.co.uk _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
