I don't have a good answer for you on the serial/activation side of things, but as to the other parts: Apple includes a pretty good installer right of the bat, but I think that the freeware IceBerg makes life a little easier. Using the .pkg (as opposed to VISE) format allows for a number of nice features for system administrators. And you get extra bonus points if you can make an app that is drag-and-drop (should not be difficult for most applications).
