Hi,
We are in the process of creating a flat installer. We had a bundle based installer earlier so while shipping it we used to make a dmg to ensure that it doesn’t get corrupt while downloading. Do we need to deliver the flat package as a dmg or can we directly ship/upload flat mpkg installer? What are the pros and cons for both?
Some I can think about quickly. Pros: - you don't have to ruin your life with the minor issues that can be encountered with dmgs. Cons: - it's not very common (yet) for end-users to download a pkg/mpkg directly. They are mostly used to downloading a dmg or zip archive. - the name of the file may not be as human friendly as what you can get with the name of a mounted dmg. - you need to make sure that you have included the readme, EULA in the distribution. - Apple still provides its flat package/distribution inside a dmg. e.g. FlashbackMalwareRemover tool. Maybe because of Cons #1. Maybe not. _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list. They will be ignored.
