RE: PackageMaker 3.0.5 command line tool
I agree. The move away from installing a separate command line tool - even if that was just a link - was very counterintuitive. I had actually tried launching the PackageMaker from the app bundle before posting to this list, but it would always just launch the GUI. There are no usage messages displayed unless you invoke PackageMaker with an argument -- and it must be an argument that it recognizes (e.g., "PackageMaker --version" will just launch the GUI without any indication that there is a command line tool embedded in the same executable). Thanks everyone for your help. -Ed ________________________________________ From: installer-dev-bounces+ewaxler=line6.com@lists.apple.com [installer-dev-bounces+ewaxler=line6.com@lists.apple.com] On Behalf Of Per Olofsson [per.olofsson@gu.se] Sent: Tuesday, March 20, 2012 12:08 PM To: Greg Neagle Cc: Installer-Dev mailing-list Subject: Re: PackageMaker 3.0.5 command line tool 20 mar 2012 kl. 18:34 skrev Greg Neagle:

Since installing the PackageMaker app (v3.0.5) via the Auxilary Tools for XCode, I do not see a command line tool. I've searched inside the PackageMaker.app bundle itself, as well as in the Xcode.app bundle - it's not in either of these as far as I can tell. I've also tried installing the Command Line Tools for XCode, but I cannot find it after installing that either.
Yeah, it's kind of annoying that there's no proper standalone command line tool anymore, but you can use PackageMaker.app/Contents/MacOS/PackageMaker inside the bundle.
There never was a "proper" standalone command-line tool; it's always been the executable inside the app bundle:
Well, in a proper place where you expect to find command line tools, and don't have to dig around random bundles… :/ -- Per Olofsson System Administrator, IT-services, University of Gothenburg _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list.
