Pax isn't the compression but the file format. The packages are compressed using gzip. At this time only gzip is supported. That doesn't actually mean you can't use tighter compression than the usual gzip method: This package actually recompresses .zip, .gz, .png... (Well, PNG files can also be compressed tightly with http:// optipng.sourceforge.net/ or combining optipng then advpng) In short, Peter might still be able to shrink everything into one CD with some care and recompression.
