Is it possible to package java 1.5 VM with my java application such that I can install it without having to concern myself with the prerequisites? I don't want to require the user to get java updates through the software updater. Also, my clients may not have their macs hooked up to the internet. I'd like to be able to package the VM and any prerequisites it may need on a disk or dmg. Has anyone had any luck with this? I do have a DMG of J2SE 5.0 Release 2 (I believe it's Release 2), but it's not release 4. It has the frustrating prerequisite of the 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 updates and it doesn't set java 1.5 to be the system default, Thus I really want the latest 1.5 JVM. It depends on if the later version of the JVM depends on files from earlier versions, and thus may not function as a stand-alone package even if the InstallationCheck and VolumeCheck scripts were changed to not check for specific versions. More importantly, if you are thinking about distributing the JVM that Apple ships with your software, you need to make sure you have proper legal clearance to do so. Just because Apple distributes a particular piece of software without charging does not necessarily mean that that software can be repackaged and distributed by another party. I don't know a good way around the problem you have of dealing with clients who may not have the latest software updates, or an internet connection with which to get them. That's a tough one.
