We have a bunch of artwork that we want to secure with a serial number (and I've explained that the contents of an installer can be easily decompressed), but of course there doesn't seem to be a good place just to install a bunch of files. The team that is running the project wants me to put it on the user desktop, but also wants it to be a user customizable path, and we have to support 10.4.
I'm not sure to follow the serial number thing. If the plan is to use a serial number in the installer via an Installer plugin, this is pointless. Installer Plugins can be skipped, removed, etc.
Yes, I'm aware, I've raised these points, but I'm just a code monkey following orders. :)
If the serial number is more a password than a serial number, why not use an encrypted disk image?
1. It's a bit more secure (it's secure as long as the password is not shared publicly (serial numbers have the same issues BTW)).
2. The disk image will mount on the Desktop.
3. The user can copy them wherever (s)he wants to.
They want each user to have an individual serial number. _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list. They will be ignored.
