This assumes that your plugin doesn't handle YUV formats; if it does, you can expect to get the YUV variants (Rec 601 or Rec 709). In Motion, you should always expect to get RGB_GAMMA_DEFAULT_MACINTOSH_DISPLAY. This is the current behavior of the shipping apps; we may change the behavior in the future. For example, the LINEAR option is there as a placeholder in case we want to start processing linear. I'm not sure why you would be getting linear data in FCP or in Motion, unless your media is actually linear, but not labeled as such. Neither app currently linearizes during processing. I've found that in Motion, I always get back kFxImageColorInfo_RGB_GAMMA_DEFAULT_MACINTOSH_DISPLAY from [inputImage colorInfo] in renderOutput:withInput:withInfo. In FCP, I always get back kFxImageColorInfo_RGB_GAMMA_VIDEO. This is with RGB images, regardless of depth. I tried this with lots of different input images, still, synthetic, and video, with the same results. Using some clips that I created with varied color profiles in AE, it appears that in Motion, the input image has linear gamma at the point that it reaches my FxPlug. The compensation suggested by Pete Warden's message "Recommendations for plugins that want to work internally in linear color", <http://lists.apple.com/archives/pro-apps-dev/2008/Feb/msg00015.html> seem to seriously overcompensate for the gamma in FCP, and is unnecessary in Motion. It contains an FxPlug and a test app, which call the same render() function with differing results. Let me know if you want me to file a bug on this, or if you think I'm making a mistake somewhere. Problem Description: The render function clears the context to yellow, then draws a white line using line smoothing and blending. the blending mode is GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA, which comes out of the OpenGL red book example. In the NSOpenGLContext, the result looks as expected. In FCE however, a dark border appears around the white line. This becomes more visible if blending is turned off. Theory (admittedly vague!): The renderer in FCE is premultiplying the RGB components with the alpha, which causes the color to fade to black as it gets more transparent. Not sure if FCE uses its own renderer, if this is a bug in the Apple software renderer, or what. This notion is supported by the fact that when I turn blending off, but leave GL_LINE_SMOOTH on, the smooth line rasterization produces gradients fading from white to black. In the test context, these appear as solid white lines. I am not sure if this is a real bug. It's quite possible that there is some OpenGL state that is different between my text context and the FxPlug context, but thus far I have been unable to detect it. There is a bunch of code below the rendering function that prints out OpenGL state, but it's by no means conclusive. Bonus: there is a second glClearColor() call in the render code. When this is uncommented, clearing in the FxPlug context has no effect, while it works correctly in the test app. FxPlugTest.zip I think the above is your problem. Since colors in OpenGL are already premultiplied, I think you want to use: glBlendFunc (GL_ONE, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA); That fixes my test case, but unfortunately it introduces a similar problem elsewhere. Now my lines are getting white 'feathers' instead of black. Below is a screenshot from my project; I'll have to work at a better test case. Without knowing how you drew what's in the screenshot, it's hard to say what the problem could be. Remember that using (GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA) works fine in a fresh NSOpenGLContext. I'm not sure what you mean about premultiplication. My limited understanding of that term is that when a function requires premultiplied color data, the color must multiply each color component by the alpha component ahead of time. So the quadruple for 100% red at 50% transparency is (.5, 0, 0, .5). When I want that color in OpenGL I call glColor4f(1, 0, 0, .5). Please let me know if I am misunderstanding the concept. I think you're understanding it correctly. I was under the impression (though I may be wrong) that you specify colors using straight alpha, but internally, OpenGL premultiplies them. Maybe I'm wrong about that. Needless to say, though, Motion and FCP do expect your plugin to produce premultiplied output, and they give you premultiplied input.

FinalCutServer ftp tmp files not cleaned up

The files are just not cleaned up at all and the tmp folder already has a size of about 200GB. My question is: - When is that folder cleaned up usually? - In case this is a bug, is it save as a workaround to automatically just erase them when they are more than one day old? Is there a way for me to reference a nested sequence via a QTMovie pointer or something like that from within my FXPlug? It's certainly our intention that FxPlugs have access to as many OS-provided services as possible. The best thing is probably for you to post exactly what you'd like to do and how you plan to accomplish it, and let us point out any possible pitfalls. When I file bug reports for those other documentation issues, I'll add one asking for clarification regarding the absence of AppKit from the template header files. In general, an FxPlug can link to whatever it needs to, and many parts of the SDK itself depend on AppKit (NSViews, NSCoding, etc). Most, if not all, of the AppKit runtime should be available to you. For example, the "ScrollingRichText" example in the SDK uses NSWorkspace. There will be a valid instance of an NSApplication available to you through [NSApplication sharedApplication], even in Final Cut (which is sort of a Carbon / Cocoa hybrid). However, the openness of Cocoa certainly allows you to do some things which may cause problems. There's nothing to stop you from creating your own modeless window which hangs out alongside the application windows, for example. This could confuse the host application, or it might not, depending on how the host is written and what you do inside your window. You could inject your own events into the host application's event loop, which could certainly cause some confusion, again depending on the data you feed us. I'm a bit confused about which frameworks an FxPlug is allowed to link against. The template Xcode FxPlug projects all import <Foundation/ Foundation.h> in the plug-in header file, suggesting that plug-ins are not expected to use AppKit. However, the project itself includes the AppKit framework -- as a set of headers AND as a framework to link against in the predefined target. I'm assuming there's plenty of stuff in AppKit that it's NOT safe to use (anything to do with NSApplication, for example), but the question is what (if anything) is safe to use. So far, open and save panels seem to work, as does the NSBundle class. Views work, for custom UI parameters, and alerts seem to be OK, but what about additional windows in general? What about bindings? I would like to use NSWorkspace, but I've no idea whether it needs support from the host application or not.
