If I loaded bars & tone into the viewer, the canvas stopped redrawing in response to clicks in my plugin's floating window. If I reloaded the clip with my filter applied into the viewer, the floating window started working again. I've filed an enhancement request against Final Cut, to the effect that we should redraw the canvas on any parameter change, not just a parameter loaded into the viewer. In the meantime, I think you'll either have to instruct your customers about this limitation, or avoid the problem by making your dialog modal (so the user has to close it before they can load something else into the viewer). The first solution allows for a more flexible workflow, but might also lead to confusion. I haven't personally seen the problem on my own systems, only a few of our customers have reported it. I'll ask them to try the barebones Cocoa window Fxplug you wrote, to see if it works correctly. I'll let you know when there's more information. When the user modifies something in the editor window, we use FxCustomParameterActionAPI and FxParameterSettingAPI to set a new value for a custom parameter on the FxPlug instance. Ever since Motion 2.0, this method has worked fine for triggering a render in the host application. This way we don't need to run the editor modally; the user can keep the window open while moving around on the host app's timeline, which is very convenient. Now we're receiving reports that the FCP 6.0.3 update has broken this behaviour. Apparently the Viewer doesn't update anymore in response to events in our editor window. However, one user mentioned that switching from FCP to Finder and then back to FCP does trigger the expected render in the Viewer in FCP. So it sounds like the problem might be some fairly trivial bug somewhere -- as in the viewer not getting the equivalent of [- NSView setNeedsDisplay:] after the FxPlug parameter has been modified...? In the past months my Macs have been invaded by this message when opening my Proapps. It started on FCP on one machine, but now it have infected all my machines, like a creepy virus, can’t even open FCP or Motion from the dock, must open a project file. My Leopard system is installed within the last 4 months, on a clean disk, with a clean install. I have licensed copies of all my software and I have no knowledge of installing anything from PACE, I want this massage out of my Mac right now! Pace produce a copy protection dongle scheme. Is it possible that a plug-in has a dongle to protect it? The software would not have been remotely installed by the developer. It is much more likely that an application or plug-in that you installed installed the Pace driver. You will likely have to co-operate with the developer if you want to resolve the issue. I've already filled out a feature request for this, but I would love to see spacebar used to play/preview files, much like quicklook, and other proapps. It would save quite a bit of time. Final Cut Server 1.0 does not have inbuilt support to analyse Motion project in the same way that it does Final Cut Pro projects. It can happily catalogue and version the motion project, but it's not going to look inside and see what clips are being used by the project, or generate a clip proxy for the motion project. But to achieve your objective of previewing Motion projects, you can do the following: If all of your media is on a Device set up for Edit in Place (eg, XSan, or an AFP share where you have entered EIP information), then the workflow to preview desired motion project would be as follows: And you can then preview the project without having to make sure that any other media was cached. You are also correct in stating that there is no current method to associate external proxy files with an asset. Given that this is a brand new product, we are very interested in feedback about how the software will be used.
