Writing a Data Handler component

I have search the apple site and the web, but I have not been able to find any sample code, or a definitive description of what needs to be included in the dispatch. There are references around the web to those that have created them for reading encrypted disks or custom network sources, and even a rumor there was a source code sample, but nothing concrete. Does anyone here have any pointers? Sadly, FCP does not support multiple video tracks linked up one after the other either, so it seems there is no way to stitch the files from the camera for direct editing in FCP. Currently the directory has to be brought in, and then the individual clips can be dropped on the time line in starting time code order. Obviously this is not ideal for workflow or for editing.
