Unfortunately it was in FCP 7, so slightly OT, but since it was with the FxPlug API, hopefully it is a useful answer going forward as well. I saw a plug-in popup a modal UI, with its own preview window, which updated to match Final Cut's canvas window as the timeline was scrubbed. If someone had asked me if that was possible before I saw that, I would have said no, because I can't think of how. But obviously it is. Any hints on how? The method is called whenever a parameter is changed, and they are surely changed when the plugin is reset. If you need to, you can see if every parameter is set to its default—if it is, the reset button has been hit, or the filter has just been applied. You can then respond appropriately. FXPlug custom UI -> resignFirstResponder

If that button is pressed while a standard UI element in the effect is still editing - as in: the user is entering text, and the text cursor is still blinking in a text field - then the effect doesn't report the new value from the text field. I am suspecting that resignFirstResponder would need to be called on the text field. I am also thinking that we can't do that with the existing API. Is that correct?
