He solved the problem by reinstalling FCS. Given that iMovie 11 and the newest version of Quartz Composer have suddenly become relevant to my Final Cut Pro plugin development, I decided to upgrade Snow Leopard over the weekend. Here's my upgrade process: 1. Backup boot drive 2. Use Snow Leopard install disc that came with current MacBook Pro (I had cloned my 10.5.8 drive onto it when I first got it) - 'Mac OS version 10.6 Disc version 1.0 2Z691-6532-A' - there was no option to archive and install, only upgrade was available. 3. Ran the 10.6.7 combo updater and the 6.0.1 ProKit updater (!) I then did a couple of atypical things: installed the dev tools and turned on the Graph Foundation log window using QC 4.0 (103.1) I got the same symptoms as Wes: no FxPlug plugins in Final Cut Pro, Motion crashing on startup. Turns out that the Snow Leopard upgrade process didn't maintain /Library/Frameworks/FxPlug.framework from my original install. Once I copied /Library/Frameworks/FxPlug.framework from my the backup of my 10.5.8 boot drive, all was well.
