It is extremely convenient (for some applications) to be able to record sound on a portable audio recorder that is not tethered to a camera. There can be all sorts of reasons for mixing cameras too. Being able to specify a fine-grained percentage would be better, but in the absence of that, modifying the audio outside FCP (via QT wrapper, perhaps?) is another option.
