You can add 'Annotation (Custom Metadata)' to the 'Element Filter' group and get the same capability on element annotations, but only (AFAIK) within a single FCP project. I assume you have done some testing and are aware of the limitations on annotations in the current FCVSR. You can't globally search annotations; Just thought I'd add that in FCSVR you can actually search for annotations globally if you use the advanced search.
