getTransitionInputImage: unexpected behavior (to me)

What I'm finding is that it's returning YES, but setting the returned FxTexture pointers to nil. Any idea why this might be happening? This is FCP 6.0.6, and I'm setting the kFxPropertyKey_MayRemapTime property to YES, if that makes a difference. Also, this is not being done in the normal render path; I'm previewing an effect in a separate window that I display when the user clicks on a button in the effect's parameters area.
