The best thing to do is to get the crash to happen, then click the "Report..." button in the "This application unexpectedly quit" dialog. This will show you a stack trace of the crash. Hopefully that will give you a clue as to whether it's Apple's code or third party code crashing. If it's Apple code, you can file a bug report at bugreport.apple.com, or just click the "Report Problem" button. If you have trouble understanding the stack trace, you can post it to this forum. We're wondering which list/forum/person we should go to to ask a question about a situation we have where certain files will crash any application (FCP, TextEdit or even the Finder) that tries to display a "Preview" of a file in a file open dialog (or in the Finder's case, just in the Finder) when in Column mode.
