For a side project here at Pixar University, I'm writing a standalone companion app to modify the XML for P2 data (Panasonic's format). I'm trying to modify the XML before the data hits FCP or Avid, so that folks can choose whichever they want and be more easily able to conform later, rather than having them do it inside of FCP's log and transfer window or Avid's equivalent. Ideally, my editors have a bunch of columns of metadata they'd like to see (like script number, DP, director, Description, etc.), and I had hoped to just add those to the <ClipMetadata> section. So I can add these, and FCP eats them okay, but unfortunately, new columns that I added don't show up in FCP (which isn't the end of the world), but worse, fields that FCP has (like Description) don't have the metadata values filled in.
