This is a bit OT, but since it relates to some pro-apps I'm working on, I figured I'd start here. I need an OS X tool like the Linux KDM kdesu or Gnome gksudo, which will ask the user for admin information graphically and then run a shell command with those permissions. Is there such a thing for OS X? Basically I want to temporarily elevate my permissions using a graphical form, like you get in Installer or Iceberg. Yes there is. I think you can do this with Authentication Services. I'm a little short on details, though, as I've never had to do it myself. You might be better off asking on the Cocoa-dev or Carbon-dev mailing lists: Cocoa-dev signup and archives: <http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/cocoa-dev
Carbon-dev signup and archives: <http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/carbon-dev
You can search the archives first to see if someone's already answered your question. And if not, you can then add yourself and ask your question. This email sent to site_archiver@lists.apple.com
