In order to work around some of the time-remapping problems, we're setting up markers in the project to create a loop. This seems to short-circuit the time remapping and we get 1-1 frame numbers. To prevent the user from seeing a pop where the loop repeats, we're making the projects very long -- 10 hours, which is hopefully longer than any clip the user will apply it to in FCP X.
Unfortunately, when we do this our projects take ages to load or save -- 10 minutes or more in some cases. The time seems to be proportional to the duration of the project, and the render speed of our effects.
During this time, Motion is using 100% CPU, and when I look at stack traces from the performance monitor app, it seems to be rendering. Is it trying to render out the whole project or what?
It may be. Is the "Save Preview Movie" checkbox checked? If so, then it's rendering a preview movie.
