Re: Will package maker continue to work in High Sierra?
site_archiver@lists.apple.com Delivered-To: pro-apps-dev@lists.apple.com Just to clarify, by “they” in that last sentence, I meant 32-bit apps. I expect pkgbuild and productbuild to work for a long time to come. Darrin

John,
I talked with the app store team (as they know about these things) and they said:
Just a note that PackageMaker itself is no longer supported.
We recommend looking at our command line tools, pkgbuild and productbuild, which both have great man pages.
So you can create your own supported installers using the above tools. If you have questions about using them, I recommend the developer forums on developer.apple.com <http://developer.apple.com/>, as I have not used these tools before.
Also, according to our website <https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=06282017a <https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=06282017a>>:
64-bit Requirement for Mac Apps June 28, 2017 At WWDC 2017, we announced new apps submitted to the Mac App Store must support 64-bit starting January 2018, and Mac app updates and existing apps must support 64-bit starting June 2018. If you distribute your apps outside the Mac App Store, we highly recommend distributing 64-bit binaries to make sure your users can continue to run your apps on future versions of macOS. macOS High Sierra will be the last macOS release to support 32-bit apps without compromise.
So it seems they will still work for one more release. (Which isn’t to say that you shouldn’t update your process now. You should!)

The upcoming High Sierra release is the last version of macOS to support 32-bit apps. So it still supports them and it's next year's version that will not work.

I have been using Package Maker to package my files for my customers with a licensed certificate included. My question is if Package Maker will continue to work in the next version of Sierra. I have heard rumors that it may not because it is not 64 bit.
Thank you for your valuable time and have an amazing day __________

Christoph,
I’ve been out of the office for a bit and am just catching up.
If you’re using the standard Apple installer, there’s nothing you should need to do to get it to work for users. Can you send the exact error that your users are seeing and any related console logs to me?
You most certainly can sell FxPlugs on the App Store. We spent some time working with the app store team to make this happen. See for example:
<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bedlam/id1008985381?mt=12 <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bedlam/id1008985381?mt=12> <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bedlam/id1008985381?mt=12 <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bedlam/id1008985381?mt=12>>>
What issues are you having in doing so?

Hi Apple,
how do I codesign my installers, so that my customers are able to install my software under Sierra.
The option to install software from “unidentified developers” is now removed (hidden) in OSX Sierra. Therefore people are not able anymore to install my software.
Unfortunately it is still not possible to sell plugins for FCPX in the AppStore. Additionally Apple closed the door to install software downloaded from the internet. (You make it more and more difficult to do business on Apple computers)
So: What do I have to do, so that my customers can install my software on their computers?
