I have the exact same thing with 5-6 angles and XDCAM HD422 50 Mb CBR.
The configuration is Mac Pros running 10.6.2, Final Cut Pro 7.0.2. The editing is being done one 6 workstations, and the onlining on a 7th computer. What we ended up doing, was to edit in ProRes proxy and online to XDCAM, but then the online machine crashes quite frequently. It is important to turn thumbnail off from the sequences, or it will crash een more.
The reason for onlining to XDCAM and not ProRes, was to save space and time so we don't have to transcode another time when we export the final show to an XDCAM U1 deck. We have approximately 25TB of video in the show, so doubling the amount would be very expensive.
If anyone has any other ideas to make this setup stabile, it would be very welcome.
Our SAN is running off 2 Active Storage boxes each with an expansion, totaling 45TB. The computers have 8GB of RAM and are 0-2 years old.

I have tested their Xsan for performance extensively and believe the bottle neck is processor and RAM (even though the clients have a minimum of 12 GBs). Is there documentation that speaks to why or why not a ProRes multiclip workflow is more desirable than XDCAM? Or how one should configure a machine to better work with native XDCAM?
