Title: Re: [Rockies-Edu] ARD Question
The client plist would be worth a try, although I don’t think it would have done the trick in this case since the disk had been formatted prior to installing Snow Leopard, thus the client would have had no knowledge that it ever was a Leopard client. Thanks much for your ideas. I will take a look at the logs on both client and ARD host next time.

Oh dear - yes, that would be drastic.
Next time, you might ssh into the client and remove the plist there instead of on your machine.
You might also check the system.log on the client machine and look for com.apple.RemoteDestop.agent errors.

The issue was that ARD could not authenticate to the host. In the current status field it would flash authenticating, but never get there. If I double clicked on the host and tried entering the password for the correct user it would fail to authenticate. I solved it by removing ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist. A rather drastic measure since that blew away my
entire ARD configuration and I had to discover clients and create lists all over again.
I probably could have edited the plist and only removed that host, something I’ll try if this
happens again.
Thanks for your interest. If you know of a better way I could have solved this I’d love to hear
it.

Hey Lawrence,
Is the "issue" that you can't connect to it (if so, what's the error?) or just that the system is showing the wrong OS info?
Is this a client machine with multiple user accounts (if so, can you connect when a different user is logged in)?
Are you able to SSH in?
Assume you're running ARD 3.x?

Greetings All,
I’ve got a system that has trouble authenticating in ARD. I’ve deleted it from ARD and re-added
it and it continues to come up with the same issue. In the ARD Mac OS Version field it shows 10.5.8 while in reality this host has 10.6.5. This makes me think it’s pulling that info from somewhere else, probably on the ARD host, the system on my desk, rather than the client computer. Any ideas?
Thanks,
