Hey David,
I'm not sure about the client functionality with 10.6 address book, I would want to compare a few clients and a 10.6 server as well to confirm the behavior. Might be worth comparing the Address Book preferences on 10.6 and 10.5 clients. Sounds like these email addresses are from multiple domains, so searching for a single domain wont work?
Also can you talk a little more about what your users are tying to do exactly? Sounds to me like they are doing a query for email addresses, and then manually inspecting that list, and dragging addresses into their own local, custom groups? To what end result, and what end usage exactly?
